Abdul Wahab – VP of Engineering, Ireland
Building better systems, one decision at a time
A world of experiences
For Abdul Wahab, travel is about more than ticking countries off a list. He enjoys discovering new cultures, trying local food, and learning how people live around the world. And while he loves exploring different cuisines, a good biryani will always have a special place on his list! When he isn't exploring somewhere new, he spends time with his wife and three children.
At work, however, there's one thing he prefers to avoid: unnecessary complexity.
“I like meetings that end with clear decisions rather than another meeting!”

From code to global leadership
As VP of Engineering at Snipp, Abdul oversees engineering, QA, and business intelligence teams while leading the company's Ireland operations. His role spans technical strategy, investment decisions, and helping teams deliver reliable solutions for clients.
His career in technology began in Pakistan more than 20 years ago, followed by five years in Dubai before he moved to Ireland. Working across three countries has given him valuable perspectives on different working styles, cultures, and approaches to problem-solving.
Turning complexity into solutions
For Abdul, one of the most rewarding parts of his job is seeing an idea become reality. He enjoys tackling complicated challenges with his teams and finding practical solutions that make a difference.
But the results aren't just about technology.
“It's even better when you see people grow in confidence and take pride in what they've achieved.”
The people behind the progress
What Abdul values most about Snipp is its people and the variety of work. With colleagues spread across different countries, every project brings fresh perspectives and new opportunities to learn.
He also appreciates the freedom to make decisions, suggest improvements, and see ideas put into practice.
Over the years, he has progressed from Senior/Lead Software Engineer to VP of Engineering, helping introduce clearer development standards, strengthen engineering practices, and build a more structured approach to project delivery.
For Abdul, the real achievement is seeing the collective impact of that work: stronger teams, clearer ownership, and more consistent delivery.
A coach beyond the office
Something colleagues might not know about Abdul is that he coaches children's cricket and participates in community volunteering and education initiatives. Helping young people develop new skills and confidence is something he genuinely enjoys.
His curiosity extends beyond technology, too. Whether it's a new gadget or something completely unrelated to his work, he likes to understand how things function and isn't afraid to ask questions.
Modernizing without missing a beat
One of Abdul's biggest professional challenges has been modernizing technology while continuing to meet demanding client commitments. With multiple projects running simultaneously and teams working across locations, prioritizing the right initiatives has been essential.
His approach is to break larger projects into manageable stages, agree on realistic timelines, and address issues early.
“The biggest lesson for me was that you can't do everything at once. Knowing what to focus on, and being willing to adjust plans when needed, makes a real difference.”
Lessons in leadership
If Abdul could offer advice to his younger self, he would encourage him to look beyond technical expertise.
“Spend just as much time developing your communication skills, building relationships, and learning how to work with different people.”
He also believes you shouldn't wait until you feel completely ready before taking on a new challenge. Often, the best learning happens when you step outside your comfort zone.
Words to lead by
The best advice Abdul has received is to focus on what you can control, take responsibility for your decisions, and look for solutions rather than someone to blame.
It's a principle that guides his approach to leadership and teamwork. Plans won't always go as expected, but how you respond and what you learn along the way can make all the difference.
His final leadership lesson is equally straightforward: you don't need to have all the answers. Listening, welcoming different opinions, and trusting your team matter just as much.
For Abdul, good leadership is about staying curious, making thoughtful decisions, and helping others succeed.
