For Shivam Kislay, the best way to unwind is to step onto a cricket field. Outside of his role as Software Engineer Team Lead at Snipp, he plays competitive cricket for Munster Cricket in Ireland's Premier Division, a passion that helps him reset and recharge after a busy week.
“Being on the field is probably my favourite way to reset after a busy week,” he says.
When he's not playing cricket, you'll likely find him cooking, catching up with friends and family, or deep in conversations about completely hypothetical topics.
“Somehow, debating whether aliens would understand cricket is surprisingly relaxing.”
At Snipp, Shivam leads engineering initiatives, works closely with cross-functional teams, and helps design scalable, reliable solutions that power client programs and experiences. His career has spanned software development, solution design, and technical leadership, giving him a unique perspective on both the technical and human sides of building great products.
“I enjoy solving complex problems while keeping the end user experience in focus.”
While many colleagues know Shivam as an engineer, fewer know just how seriously he takes cricket. Years of competing at a high level have taught him lessons that extend far beyond sport.
“Cricket has taught me discipline, teamwork, and how to stay calm under pressure.”
Even his approach to cooking reflects his engineering mindset.
“I treat cooking like software development. There are lots of experiments, occasional bugs, and hopefully a successful release at the end.”
For Shivam, the biggest differentiator at Snipp is the culture. The company strikes a balance between ownership and collaboration, giving people the freedom to make decisions while providing the support needed to succeed.
“People trust you to make decisions while also being incredibly supportive. That combination is really motivating.”
One of Shivam's proudest professional achievements has been growing into a Team Lead role and earning the trust to lead projects and teams. Personally, balancing a demanding engineering career while continuing to compete in Premier Division cricket is something he is equally proud of.
“Managing both worlds has taught me discipline, consistency, and time management.”
One of the biggest challenges in Shivam's career has been balancing technical leadership with hands-on execution. Early on, he learned that success does not come from trying to do everything yourself.
“The solution isn't doing everything yourself. It's building trust, communicating clearly, and empowering people to take ownership.”
That shift in mindset helped him become a stronger leader and enabled his teams to perform at their best.
If he could give advice to his younger self, Shivam would encourage patience and curiosity.
“Don't rush every milestone. Focus on learning, stay curious, and trust that consistency compounds over time.”
He also wishes he had spoken up more often.
“Opportunities often come from conversations, not just hard work.”
The best advice Shivam has ever received is simple but powerful:
“Control what you can control.”
Whether on the cricket pitch, in a project meeting, or navigating everyday life, that mindset helps him stay focused on what matters most.
If there is one thing people quickly learn about Shivam, it is that he loves a good discussion. Technology, cricket strategy, impossible business ideas, or completely fictional scenarios are all fair game.
“I believe some of the best ideas and strongest relationships come from conversations, serious or completely random.”
And if one of those conversations happens to involve aliens learning the rules of cricket, even better.
